All gerbils that we take in go through a quarantine period so we can
check for illness and temperament. Some come to us pregnant or with
young litters. We raise those litters and adopt them out when they are
ready. Any gerbil that we do not feel is suitable for adoption is kept
here at Little Whiskers so we can give it the care it needs.
All
gerbils require a $5.00 adoption fee per gerbil. Discounts will be
given on a case by case basis for people willing to take larger groups,
or other special circumstances. If you would like additional
information on any of the gerbils you see here, please feel free to
contact us!
Gerbils
adopted from our rescue should NOT be used to breed. Most all of them
come from unkown backgrounds and chances are good they are either
already over bred or highly inbred. While we only adopt out animals
that are physically fine for pets, some of the gerbils are carrying
genetic defects that would be passed on to their offspring. Our goal is
to let these animals have a second chance at a home where they will be
taken care of- not used to breed.
We also currently have a few pairs available. They will only be adopted out in the pairs listed.
This
pair is mom and daughter. The mom- who was named "Chewey" by her
previous owner- was attacked by a cat and so she is missing part of her
tail. Her daughter was born and raised here at Little Whiskers.

This
pair is approximately 4 months old. The tan girl has a fixed wrist
which is a birth defect, but she manages just fine! You will just
notice that she holds one of her front paws a little funny and can't
spread her little fingers out. Both of these girls are very friendly!

Occasionally we have animals other than gerbils in our rescue. Right now we have a couple hamsters and some mice.
This
is a group of 4 female mice. They came in together and they must be
adopted out together as mice are very social animals also. We are
working with them, but currently they are not hand tame yet.

We
also have a female dwarf hamster. She was brought in with another
female but they had to be separated to due to fighting. We are also
working with her but she is not hand tame yet either.
